Next Tuesday our meeting will be held at Prairie Ridge which is located directly behind Midwest Medical Center at 1 Prairie Ridge Drive. The meeting will be held at Noon. Please enter through the main entrance and someone will be there to direct you to the meeting space. Our speaker will be Jerry Howard from the American Legion.

Lunch will be available for $12. Cash or Check please. No credit cards accepted. Water and coffee are available to drink. If you would like another beverage you can bring your own.

The Kiwanis Club of Galena invites you to sign up for our annual Run for the Parks with proceeds benefitting the parks in our community. This year’s run will take place on April 22nd on the Galena River Trail.

The Kiwanis Club of Galena is accepting applications for two $1,000 scholarships. If you are a graduating Galena High School Senior, follow the link below to download and send in by April 1, 2023.

Student must meet the following eligibility criteria:

ELIGIBILITY

APPLICANT MUST BE A GRADUATING SENIOR FROM GALENA HIGH SCHOOL

APPLICANT MUST HAVE MAINTAINED A MINIMUM OF A “C” AVERAGE DURING HIGH SCHOOL

APPLICANT MUST BE ACCEPTED TO A 2-4 YEAR COLLEGE OR VOCATIONAL SCHOOL

APPLICATION MAY BE OBTAINED THROUGH THE GALENA HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED TO THE GUIDANCE COUNSELOR’S OFFICE BY APRIL 1, 2023.

APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE ONE LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION

Lt. Governor Visits Club

Club President Austin Gerlich welcomes Lt. Governor Yvonne Mallory

This past Tuesday our Lt. Governor, Yvonne Mallory, visited with us. Her responsibilities include distributing Kiwanis information and filing reports for our area clubs. She coordinates the efforts of the Dubuque, Galena, and Maquoketa clubs. Thanks for your efforts in helping us serve our communities.

Our Club recieved donations from the following organizations for our support of local events:

$200 from the ARC for participation in Holidaze

$300 from the Galena Lions Club for supporting Oktoberfest 2022 to be used towards fireworks

City Of Galena Provides Updates On Park Renovations and Fourth of July Parade

Hillary Dickerson, Facilities Manager for the City of Galena, provided us with a few updates. The Fourth of July Parade will be organized by the City this year with a start time of 5:30pm. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.

New playground equipment is expected to be installed this year at Bouthillier Street, Hill Street, and Old City Cemetery. Hillary provided us with information regarding all upgraded equipment and costs for each site. Our Club’s Run For The Parks is a major sponsor to Park improvements.

Donation To Run For The Parks

We are grateful to Gerry Rojemann for his recent donation of $500 in memory of his wife, Mardy Rojemann. These funds will be targeted to the Race for The Parks event which will be held on April 23rd.

Mardy was an avid champion of our club who passed suddenly this past year. Thank you so much to the Rojemann Family for their continued support of our Club in her memory.

We appreciate our community partners! Thank you to Culver’s for sharing the proceeds of our recent Share Night. Club members along with Key Club Members participted in this event. A total of $313.27 was donated to our club and will helps us continue our commitment to serving the children of the world.
