Club members Joanne and Mike Muzzey, who served on the Galena Territory 50th Anniversary Committee, shared a presentation on how the GTA was formed along with historic photos. Afterwards, we each had an opportunity to share our personal stories and connections to Galena and the Territory.
We have a great mix of lifelong residents and members who have moved here from other areas. Come and join us on Tuesdays at Noon at Prarie Ridge.
Once again, we continued the tradition of celebrating the 4th of July in style. Pictured above are just some of our group braving the heat in downtown Galena for the afternoon’s festivities which included food, music, and fun.
Many have commented that this year’s fireworks display was the best ever! What a way to show how our club supports our community! Thanks to all who participated and donated to this project.
Our Club received an award for $3,000 to supplement the funds we raised through Run For the Parks. These additional funds were given to the City of Galena earlier this month to assist with the improvements of Bouthillier Park. Pictured above are a group photo of all of the grant recipients and a photo of Libby Miller, and Joanne and Mike Muzzey who accepted the funds on our behalf.
Our Club is very proud of the many ways we provide support to Galena. Listed below are just some of our projects:
-Run for the Parks: Over the last five years we have donated approximately $40,000 to the City of Galena for park improvements
-Fireworks: The Galena Kiwanis have sponsored the fireworks displays for the tri -state area for over 25 years. In recent years we have partnered with the City of Galena to provide this annual event.
-Galena Senior Scholarship: Two per year at $1,000
-Monthly donation of $100 for various community organizations and events; ARC, St. Vincent DePaul, Honor Flight, American Legion, Mop Shop, Food Pantry, Friends of Library, etc.
-Galena High School Key Club: We assist with supporting the Galena High School Key Club
-Project Eliminate: Partnering with UNICEF to assist with vaccines, health education, and a safe birth environment to assist children and families in need
-Menominee Rd. Clean Up: Picking up litter along Menominee Rd. quarterly.
-Country Fair: Participate in the Country Fair vendor program yearly
-Kiwanis International Fund: Used to support needy children and families
-Individual Volunteering: Each member volunteers his/her time to assist with other service organizations and activities in the community
These are a few of the activities that the Kiwanis participate in to promote and support the children and families in the Galena area.
Our Club applied for, and recieved a grant from the Galena Country Fair organization for $3,000. These funds were awarded to our club to supplement monies raised through our Race For The Parks to help with improvments to Bouthillier Park.
