On Tuesday, we were visited by Mike Casper, CEO and President of JCE along with Dan Tindell. They provided us with an update on services that Jo Carroll Energy provides in our area.
A member owned Cooperative with over 31K accounts, their goals are to Grow Service to the area, Achieve Operational Excellence and provide Value to Members.

Volunteers for Kiwanis Run for the Parks: 2023
Pre- Race Day: Thursday -April 20 and Friday- April 21
Prepare Packets Prairie Ridge 3:00 p.m.: Thursday, April 20; t-shirts, reminders, bibs, etc. Bibs mailed on 4/10/23: Kate, Terry, Bernie
Packet Distribution/Late Registration: Friday, April 21, 4-7:00 p.m. &Sat., April 22, 8:00-8:45 a.m.: 2 people
Mark Running Trail: Friday, 4:00 p.m.: Course has permanent markers every ½ mile. Adjust to 5/10 K markings; spray paint, chalk, cones. 2 people
Tent Set Up: Small tent under bridge, set up on Friday at 3:30 p.m. – 2 people
Water Table 8:30-10;30 a.m.: 2 people at one water stations at 1 ½ mile marker. Need one table, cups, and water. Key Club or NHS students
Finish Line 8:45 -10:30 a.m.: Assist runners completing the race; rest area, refreshments, retrieving their time, place, etc.- 3 people
Post Race Refreshment Table 8:45-10:30 a.m.: Assist with race snacks and drinks ; water, bananas, and energy bars- 2 people
Runner Final Times & Place: Stacy and one other person
Medals-Ribbons: Awards will be handed out a end of run-2 people
Parking 8:00 a.m.: Parking on North side of bridge: 2 people
On Tuesday, Amercian Legion Sr. Vice Commander Jerry Howard visited our Club to share details about ways that their organization serves those who have served our country. One of the most recent local programs is free rides for veterans through Jo Daviess Transportation. The Kiwanis Club of Galena is accepting applications for two $1,000 scholarships. If you are a graduating Galena High School Senior, follow the link below to download and send in by April 1, 2023.
Student must meet the following eligibility criteria:
APPLICANT MUST BE A GRADUATING SENIOR FROM GALENA HIGH SCHOOL
APPLICANT MUST HAVE MAINTAINED A MINIMUM OF A “C” AVERAGE DURING HIGH SCHOOL
APPLICANT MUST BE ACCEPTED TO A 2-4 YEAR COLLEGE OR VOCATIONAL SCHOOL
APPLICATION MAY BE OBTAINED THROUGH THE GALENA HIGH SCHOOL GUIDANCE COUNSELOR
APPLICATION MUST BE COMPLETED AND SUBMITTED TO THE GUIDANCE COUNSELOR’S OFFICE BY APRIL 1, 2023.
APPLICATION MUST INCLUDE ONE LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION
Hillary Dickerson, Facilities Manager for the City of Galena, provided us with a few updates. The Fourth of July Parade will be organized by the City this year with a start time of 5:30pm. Further information will be provided as it becomes available.
New playground equipment is expected to be installed this year at Bouthillier Street, Hill Street, and Old City Cemetery. Hillary provided us with information regarding all upgraded equipment and costs for each site. Our Club’s Run For The Parks is a major sponsor to Park improvements.
We appreciate our community partners! Thank you to Culver’s for sharing the proceeds of our recent Share Night. Club members along with Key Club Members participted in this event. A total of $313.27 was donated to our club and will helps us continue our commitment to serving the children of the world.
