A Visit From Rotary Club Of Galena

17 May

This week we found out more about how the local Rotary Club participates in serving our community. Pictured here, Jim Berberet and Andy Willis gave us some backgound on how their club operates and told us about their bi-annual fundraisers, the Chopper Drop and Auction, which raise funds to do good in Galena. They meet twice a month at the DeSoto House for lunch.

Their guiding principles include the 4 way Test:

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  3. Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

Showing Up To Clean Up!

26 Apr

One of the ways we participate in Earth Day activities is to show up to clean up the levee area in downtown Galena. This area is one of the City’s landmarks and often one of the first views of our community for visitors.

Pictured here are club members who helped with the cleanup.

Galena City Engineer Visits

12 Apr

Matt Oldenburg, City Engineer for Galena, visited our club this week to give an update on everything that’s going on and the list is long. IDOT Spring Street Project, Lead Service Replacement, Street Improvement Program, Sidewalk Recplacement, Commerce Street Parking Lot, Infrastructure Program and Well Tower 7 Repaint Project. All part of an ongoing Captial Improvement Plan for the City. Bet you thought they just fixed things as they broke!

Thanks Matt!

We Mourn The Loss of Terry Townsend

5 Apr

This week Terry Townsend, a longtime Kiwanian, passed after a long illness. She was a true example of someone who believed in our mission “Serving The Children Of The World”.

Terry originally joined the Kiwanis Club of Park Forest in 1995 and held several positions in that Club including Lt. Governor. She joined the Kiwanis Club of Galena in 2018 and was always eager to welcome new members. Terry was often the first to sign up for service projects as pictured here on Peanut Day in 2023.
