New This Year! Kiwanis Grant Application

Starting in 2025, the Galena Kiwanis Club will be offering an annual grant for up to $5,000. The 6th Annual River Trail Run scheduled for April 19, 2025, will assist with providing funds to local organizations with supporting children and improving the quality of life in the Galena area.

Galena High School Looking For American Exchange Project Hosts

This week Meggie Jenkins, American Exchange Project Manager for the Galena High School, talked to us about this 2 week program. They are in need of host families for several students who will come to Galena from July 2nd through July 9th .

Hosts will need to provide a place to sleep, transportation to the High School daily and must pass a basic background check. If you are interested in finding out more about this program and what it takes to be a host contact Meggie at : mjenkins@gusd.120.k12.il.us.

ROE#8 Family Enrichment Program

This week, we learned about the Family Enrichment Program which is offered to all families as a Free Parent Support Program and offers services to those living in Carroll, Jo Daviess and Stephenson Counties. Services include: Prenatal Support; Personal Visits; Group Connections/Play Groups; Screening/Early Learning Check Ups; and other resources. Get out your training calendar and put April 19, 2025 on it if you have set a goal to run 5 or 10k race. This is a fun event that is a great way to start off race season. Midwest Medical Hosts A Tour of Their Updated Facility

A Visit From The Vision Itinerant Program

Steve McAuliff of the Northwest Special Education Cooperative’s Vision Itinerant Program visit the Club. He shared information about the programs he offers to individuals faced with the challenge of low vision along with some of the resources he uses to help program participants.

Pickleball For Everyone!

Last week we learned about the proposed development of a pickleball court area in Rec Park just outside of downtown Galena. Committee members Shirley Rosenthal, Marc McCoy, and Larry Weidenheft showed off architerctural renderings and talked about all of the opportunities for programs involving this fast growing sport.
